Community Health workers
The goal of the Community Health Workers program is to address the barriers to health that refugees face in Rhode Island. Community Health Workers are contracted by CenRAS, come from 10 different ethnic communities, are sensitive to the health needs of refugees, and address health in a culturally competent way. These Community Health Workers act as medical interpreters, case managers, and health educators in their respective communities.
Refugee community leaders from 10 different ethnic communities participate in training on domestic violence so that they can be informed on the issue and intervene in their respective communities in a culturally appropriate way.
